On 11 May 2017, 16-year-old Minh-Phuong underwent heart surgery at the children’s heart surgery unit of HCM City University Hospital. The operation entailed a final, corrective heart procedure.
Minh-Phuong was one of the first three patients from Vietnam to benefit from the Heart for Heart Foundation. She had a very complex heart defect. In 2005, during cardiac catheterisation at the Paediatric Cardiology department of Munich Großhadern Hospital (Prof. Netz), she underwent patent ductus stenting to ensure an adequate supply of blood to her lungs.
In October 2016, open-heart surgery was performed at HCM City University Hospital in preparation for the ultimate procedure.
Due to the generous donation from Mrs Evi Brandl, the cutting-edge cardiac catheterisation lab supplied by Philips was ceremoniously unveiled on 12 November 2015.
The opening of a new children’s heart unit at Ho Chi Minh City University Hospital meant that poor children with heart conditions from the south of Vietnam as far as the Mekong Delta would now receive medical attention.
