The girl seems overly excited. Nguyen Le Thu Thao constantly slides to and fro across the floor. Then she suddenly crawls under a metal table, refusing to come out. Anyone attempting to talk with the nine-year-old receives no answer. Sometimes she makes a face, as if she’s about to laugh. What is she feeling? The girl can’t speak. Her lower abdomen is stunted. She has no legs.
